NVA SUMMER SPORTS EXPERIENCE - 1/2 DAY PROGRAM SUMMER
|
|
|
BACKGROUND ABOUT THE PROGRAM |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
 |
In 1999, NVA began running "sports experiences". We were hesitant to use the word "camp" when we started the program, because "camp" in our experience involves kickball & dodge ball all-day-everyday. We have raised the bar to a whole new level for youth sports day "camps". We have created a program where the days are filled with a variety of athletic events, field trips, and sports education offerings in a structured, caring and educational environment. |

| 1st & 2nd Grade Program Description |
|
| Each day the NVA coaching staff will present new sports from baseball, soccer, football, floor hockey, water polo, racquetball and everything in between. Most days will have a clinic as in other NVA sports programs teaching NVA fundamentals in the specific sports of the day, followed with fun, competitive team and individual events. Kids are rewarded for efforts on and off the field, for good teamwork, positive attitudes and respect for teammates as well as opponents. The program also features "The NVA Store", where kids can purchase NVA uniforms, T-shirts, sporting goods and other goodies with the NVA dollars earned from the above mentioned daily events. |
| GRADE LEVEL IS THE GRADE KIDS ARE CURRENTLY IN AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION |
| 3rd - 6th Grade Program Description |
The competition becomes a little more fierce in SportsExperience II. Not only do we expose the kids to the traditional team sports, but we customize competition to emphasize finer points of skill development including homerun derbies, knockout!, and 3-on-3 speed soccer. We will also introduce lesser played sports like water polo, racquetball and tennis. Special events will include a Ironkid Triathlon and special electives, including a canoe & campout over-night trip or the sports
over-night "Lock-In". A one-day scuba diving class in the pool also will be offered.
Groups will be divided by 3 & 4 combined and 5th & 6th combined |
| FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THE SUMMER SPORTS EXPERIENCE PROGRAM |
| |
WHO ARE THE STAFF MEMBERS FOR THE SUMMER SPORTS EXPERIENCE PROGRAM ?
The same coaching staff that runs our NVA sports leagues also runs our sports experience programs. You can count on seeing Coach Kraig, Coach Tracy, Coach George and your other favorite NVA sports league coaches all-day long at this program. It's also worth mentioning that the average staff age for this program is roughly 24 years old. Most coaches are seniors in high school, college or have already graduated college. |
| |
WHAT IS THE COACH TO CHILD RATIO ?
Each coach has 9 to 10 children in a group |
| |
WHO ARE THE LIFEGUARDS DURING SWIM TIME?
Lake Forest College Summer Conferences provides two fully-certified trained life guards at the pool during our swim time. In addition to this, one NVA coach is always in the pool at all times during swim time. Usually another NVA coach is on deck helping with the guards. To keep a safe and fun pool environment, three groups
(26 to 30 kids total) are in the pool at one time. |
| |
MY CHILD DOESN'T LIKE TO SWIM - DOES HE OR SHE HAVE TO SWIM EACH DAY?
No. We realize some children are apprehensive about going into the pool for many different reasons. In cases where kids don't want to swim, arrangements can be made to participate in another group activity for that time period. We should mention that children who often are the most apprehensive, often end up happily participating in our pool games and activities by the summer's end. |
| |
| MY CHILD IS A VERY FUSSY EATER. WHAT FOOD IS SERVED FOR LUNCH? |
| Aramark Food Service runs the Lake Forest College cafeteria. There are |
four hot lunch items to choose from each day (hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, stir fry, etc.) |
salad & fruit bar |
sandwich bar (assorted cold cuts, cheeses, breads + peanut butter & jelly) |
cereal bar (ten to twelve different kinds of cereal to choose from) |
beverages of every kind (soft drinks, milk, water, sports drinks, lemonade -- you name it - they've got it) |
dessert & soft serve ice cream bar |
| We can honestly say we NEVER have had a child not want to eat what's served in seven years. Quite frankly, lunch is usually the children's favorite part of the day. |
| |
OVERNIGHTS (CAMPOUT & LOCK-IN) FOR SPORTS EXPERIENCE II ELECTIVE SOUNDS FUN - BUT MY CHILD ISA LITTLE SCARED OF STAYING OVERNIGHT. CAN HE/SHE JUST DO THE DAYTIME PORTION OF THE OPTION?
Yes. Last year we had kids who canoed and hiked the day portion of the overnight camping trip and then were picked up prior to night fall. The same held true for the "Lock-in". Some kids were picked up just prior to "lights out" and then returned in the morning for a normal day of camp. |
| |
CAN MY CHILD BE WITH HIS OR HER BEST FRIEND IN A GROUP?
Usually it's okay. Unlike our sports leagues where we won't always pair best friends together, this program is a little different. Kids can usually be with one or two friends in a group. If behavior problems occur, kids may be moved to a different group and/or not permitted to participate on special elective options. |
| |
DO YOU PRO-RATE THE PROGRAM FEE BASED ON LIMITED PARTICIPATION?
Sorry, but no, we can't pro-rate the program fee. Aramark Food Services and Lake Forest College Summer Conferences require us to give the number of kids signed-up for the program. We are charged a daily fee whether kids show for one day or the whole five weeks. |
