BASEBALL SKILLS COMPETITION
DATE: TUESDAY, JULY 22ND
Rain date if needed: Sunday, July 27th (same times listed below)
4:00 - 5:00PM 3RD GRADE LEAGUE A-M LAST NAMES  
5:00 - 6:00PM 3RD GRADE LEAGUE N - Z LAST NAMES  
6:00 - 7:00PM 4TH & 5TH GRADE LEAGUE A- M LAST NAMES  
7:00 - 8:00PM 4TH & 5TH GRADE LEAGUE N - Z NAMES  
Skills competition is not mandatory. We have blocked off the night in time slots so kids won't have to wait in long lines at the various skills stations.
If you cannot make the time slot for your child's age group OR alphabetical range,
YOU MAY ATTEND A DIFFERENT ONE - NO CALLS NEEDED
 
 
 
EVENTS & RULES
homerun trot    
Object: Players start at home and circle all the bases, touching each base with his or her foot.
Clock stops when the player reaches home. 10 second penalty for each base missed.
Players may attempt a maximum of two times. Player's best time will be the score kept.
   
slugging  
Object: Players get 7 swings. A player can choose to swing at any pitch (ball or strike)
No "called strikes". Points for hits will be as follows:  
0 pts. - strike or any foul ball  
3 pts. - fair ball (grounder or pop-up) which stays within the infield bases.  
5 pts. - fair ball which rolls past infield bases to outfield grass, but stops prior to homerun fence
7 pts. -fair ball which rolls to, hits, or bounces over the homerun fence  
15 pts. - homerun - any fair ball hit over the fence on a fly  
Players may attempt only one time.  
   
bunting  
Object: Players get 7 bunts. A player can choose to bunt any pitch (ball or strike)
Bunts which are bunted fair into the "bunt target zone" ( an arched area roughly 12 feet
which radiates from home plate) will be worth 1 point each.  
Players may attempt only one time.  
   
throwing accuracy  
Object: A player starts with the ball from the shortstop position and then throws to a target at
the first base area. Points for throws will be as follows:  
0 pts. - throw which does not hit the target  
3 pts. - throw which hits any part of the designated target in the air or off the bounce
5 pts. - throw which hits the "bulls eye" circle in the air or off the bounce.  
Players may attempt this event a maximum of two times. Player's best score will be kept.

 

SCORING:      
THE PLAYER WHO RECEIVES THE BEST SCORE FOR EACH EVENT RECEIVES 10 POINTS FOR THAT  
PARTICULAR EVENT. 2ND PLACE 9.75, 3RD PLACE 9.5, 4TH PLACE 9.25, etc. SCORING CONTINUES  
AT THIS SAME PATTERN TO THE NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS WHO COMPETE. IF TWO OR MORE PLAYERS
HAVE THE EXACT SAME SCORE OR TIME FOR AN EVENT, EACH WILL GET THE SAME POINT VALUE.  
POINTS FOR ALL FOUR EVENTS ARE ADDED TOGETHER FOR AN OVER-ALL COMBINED TOTAL FOR EACH PLAYER.
         
PRIZES:      
TROPHIES WILL BE AWARDED TO THE TOP FINISHERS WITH THE TOP TOTAL POINTS. THERE WILL BE
SEPARATE PRIZE CATEGORIES FOR EACH GRADE LEVEL. (PLAYERS PLAYING "UP" WILL COMPETE  
AGAINST PLAYERS OF THEIR SAME GRADE. TROPHIES WILL BE AWARDED FOR 1ST - 5TH PLACES  
FOR EACH OF THE FOLLOWING AGE CATEGORIES
